Just in case you thought your house was chaotic when all the gang was together. 13 grandkids together, most under the age of 10. We were missing a few too. Oh...no we didn't eat pizza for Thanksgiving, this was just another meal. Crazy, but strangely relaxing as well. It's nice to leave your to do list at home and just enjoy your family. It was very nice. We also got to enjoy another Thanksgiving with my parents this year, which was very nice as it's been several years since we've had Thanksgiving there.
I liked these extra blingy pumpkins as our centerpiece this year. Next time I might paint the stems silver. Simple and elegant, plus easy. Paint the top 2/3 of pumpkins with modge podge. Spoon on a mixture of glitter and sugar crystals. The end. Easy.
One of the reasons I love my husband. He sings songs of the Sabbath with LittleC.ThinkSacrament Meeting meets Phantom of the Opera. So the two of them, each with their own hymn book just belting it out while I work in the kitchen. I tried to sneakily get them on film, but of course the camcorder was dead.
I love scarves, everyone knows it. I try and knit one each year for fun, and so I don't forget how. Of course I only know a basic knit stitch. This year I decided on a short cowl type scarf. My talented mother-in-law crocheted the flower "button" that adorns it.
What am I all about? I am a woman of faith and love God. I live for my sweet family. I get excited about art, culture, design, literature, history, politics, fashion, quilts, travel, entertaining and small pleasures. I have a lot of soap boxes and I struggle to make sense of the flurry of ideas in my head. Maybe this blog will help.
I will explain. My favorite poem is "Hope" by Emily Dickinson.
Hope is the thing with feathers
That perches in the soul,
And sings the tune without the words,
And never stops at all,
And sweetest in the gale is heard;
And sore must be the storm
That could abash the little bird
That's kept so many warm.
I've seen it in the chillest land,
And on the strangest sea;
Yet, never, in extremity,
It asked a crumb of me.
Somehow this has always stayed in my memory, yet now as the world grows more frightening and uncertain, this idea of hope seems to become of increasing importance. Hence, That Thing With Feathers.
