I often get myself into trouble by jumping right into a big project that I can't really pull off by myself. Two weeks ago, after being inspired by the gardens of others, I came home and started shoveling up the grass in the back yard at 2:30 in the afternoon. I finished digging up the grass by the end of the next day. Then I moved all of the dug up sod and pulled out the sprinklers. Then, I had worked so hard and knew I only had the day before the storm came in, so I went and rented a tiller. I said, "Do you have a small tiller, something I can run?" The first place said, "No, you can't run that."....ok, thanks. Next place said, yep, here it is. This is what you do. So I get my tiller home. Of course, I can't start it. Ughhh! The neighbor is out, so I round up some help for starting my tiller. He solves the problem and away I go. Except every time I get going it kills. I call the store, they say, "lift the wheel up."...Oh. Finally, it's going to work, I start getting a lot of power! Yeah!....Kills. I never could get it started again. So I took it back and luckily they cancelled my charges. They ask me if I want the next size bigger..."NO!" I call and yell at TY at work, "If a girl has to put in her own garden there ought to be a machine big enough to get through the dirt that she can run!!" I was so frustrated, trying with all my might to get this done on my own, and couldn't do it. So I was telling my mom my story and she told my dad. He called when he got home from school and said he was coming up. He came and tilled. What a guy! (important note: TY never even made it home from work that night, he got home at 6:00 am so cannot be faulted for not helping out). Since my garden plot was on a bit of a hill, I thought boxes would be the best way to terrace and keep the water where it needed to be. That required TY to help me. So, after he slept off his long night he was kind enough to help me build some boxes, but this was quite a project and we had some really rainy days to work around. Plus we needed 2 truck loads of dirt to level everything up. FINALLY, my boxes are all done and my plants/seeds are in. I LOVE GARDENS! I hope it will flourish and be a blessing to our family because it took a lot of work to get it here. The men in my life are very good sports (TY and Dad)!!
